Dreaming of Jerusalem Part 2 at Havdalah Together, Saturday, May 1 at 8:00pm


At last week’s Havdalah Together program we discussed a newly released documentary, Dreaming of Jerusalem about the remaining Jews stranded in Ethiopia. This week we will view and discuss Orange County Rabbi Dr. Art Levine’s (Founder of Aiding Needy Jews in Ethiopia (anJieonline.org)’s 2017 documentary The Hungry Jews of Ethiopia.  Rabbi Levine will be joined by Joseph Feit, Founder of Struggle to Save Ethiopian Jews (SSEJ.org) to discuss the current circumstances of the Jewish communities remaining in Ethiopia, including lack of food and medical care, current aid programs, the civil war and Covid-19 pandemic.

Rabbi Art Levine

Rabbi Dr. Art Levine grew up at Temple Beth Sholom in Santa Ana and has been a member of Temple Beth Tikvah in Fullerton for over forty years.  He attended UCLA, earned a law degree in 1986, a Ph.D. (history) in 2004, and was ordained by the Academy for Jewish Religion-CA in 2009.  He first visited the Jewish communities of Ethiopia in 2017 and upon his return founded Aid for Needy Jews in Ethiopia.  He made follow-up visits in 2018 and 2019. 

Joseph Feit

Joseph Feit, an attorney, is currently Chairman of Struggle to Save Ethiopian Jewry and a past president and current board member of the North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry. He has received awards from the Knesset, the Jewish Agency and the Jewish communities of Addis Ababa and Gondar for three decades of work on behalf of Ethiopian Jewry.
