April 17th’s Havdalah Together presenter Helen Cameron speaks with us about affordable housing solutions and permanent supportive housing programs under development throughout California. Helen will share examples created by Jamboree Housing, a leading non-profit developer, and the ingredients that go into this housing and support. We will learn about innovative solutions using church sites, motel conversions and utilizing “lasagna” layered funding to create new homes for many of Orange County’s most vulnerable homeless residents.
Helen Cameron, Jamboree Housing Community Outreach Director
For the past 20 years, Helen has participated in the development of permanent supportive housing. She partnered in the development of the first community in Orange County in 2004 to house formerly homeless individuals with a mental health diagnosis – Jackson Aisle. With Jamboree, she has developed three new communities, Diamond Apartment Homes in Anaheim, Doria in Irvine and Rockwood in Anaheim for formerly homeless individuals with a mental health diagnosis. As part of Jamboree’s development team, she was involved in the planning of a new veteran’s community in Santa Ana for 75 formerly homeless veterans opened in 2020 as Heroes Landing.
She was part of the working group which developed the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness. As Co-chair of the Community Services and Support Committee for the Mental Health Services Act Steering Committee she is a passionate advocate for housing resources for our most vulnerable residents.
